What is “touch wood”? Is it a superstition? Or a new English phrase for modern life?
This is a tough question. First, I heard this phrase back in 2007 in Mumbai. But the main problem is why people use this. When I started doing some research on this – here what I found, basically there are many historical facts, but mostly I got that – Pagan belief that trees were the home of fairies and spirits types of mythical creatures. There was a tradition to knock the wood twice because the first one is for wishing the tree and the second one is for thank you.
The whole idea of touching wood or knocking was also to distract evil spirits residing in the tree and prevent them from hearing your hopes for the future, as they may prevent them from coming true.
Knocking on wood may seem trivial, but it is one small way people quell their fears in a life full of anxieties. Some people believe ‘touching wood’ will avert bad things happening. If someone 100% believes in this superstition, it would be classified as delusional. I am amazed at how many otherwise intelligent people hold this delusion.
Like all good superstitions, it’s probably derived from a mix of some, if not all, of these theories. Whether it works on the other hand… well, touch wood.
My father used to say that word. The matter of fact is, I do not even know what is rendering unless I started learning Photoshop. But precisely what is “Rendering”? If you go to Google and check, you will get various answers.
You cannot explain this word until you face the real problem in your life. It not about money or fame. It is all about the situation of how you face it and tries to cope up with it, or you can say try to adjust yourself in it. But what next? Will it build yourself up? Well, you can say that because it is true. The more you face problems, the more you will get to know something new in your life.
Some people said that you must fail at some point. Cause, if you do not lose, you will never learn the lesson. I have seen a lot of success stories these days. They always discuss their struggles and achievements in public. But literally, no one is there who talked about their failures. Well, this is entirely consistent. Because when you come to limelight, we will shine. But your failure will not be highlighted because it is like string theory. The never-ending research works. No one knows the correct answer.
Now think backward, if you learn something new or willing to learn something new, the ratio of failure will be less. Because you will get the basics, then you will try if you fail, then you will change the method, and after that, you will apply.
I have seen many people in my life, well-educated, but in a practical scenario, they cannot solve a simple equation because of their fragile foundations.
It all depends on your willingness. Do whatever you want to and listen to your parents. You will see indeed pressurized, but still, at some point, you will get something. But whatever you do, always learn the basics first. It is crucial. Without basics, your entire foundation will be fragile.
Are you leading or bleeding? It’s a straightforward question, but it’s tough to answer. 99% of people say that they are a good leader. But when you see them from a distance, you will find that answer is pretty wrong in some cases. The fundamental difference between a dictator and a leader is their style and approach. Most of the time, we forget that we have to treat people with respect, and we have to motivate them instead of manipulating them. Because you cannot control everything in this world so, you need to deal with it.
I believe that a person with a negative mind will always misuse his power in something that they haven’t dealt with before, and therefore it causing them to lash out at others. It’s genuine that if you hurt in the past, then you will hurt others because instead of healing yourself first, you have started pushing yourself into the future. So, if you don’t deal with your unhealed wounds, you’ll think you’re leading, but in reality, you’re bleeding on them.
A dictator doesn’t care about the issues. Think of someone like Adolf Hitler, who had a personal plan to promote himself above the people and to further his mistaken ideology more than society itself.
If you want to avoid or stop being a dictator and become a leader, you must heal before you lead others. You should prepare others for the future instead of reproducing others that are a byproduct of your damaged past. It’s time to heal and address your issues before you hurt others.
I am interested to hear your rebuttal.
I have been working from home for the last couple of years, so I understand the expectation from an organizational, personal perspective. But some of you might never be operated from home before, and I know it’s tough for them to stay back.
The difference being, in pre-Corona Virus (COVID 19) times, many organizations had begun to incorporate WFH into the lives of their employees with remote working. So what is the difference now? Well, many organizations already implement work from home infrastructure at speed without warning and with the potential addition of a confined situation. As a result, the reality of working from home has been intensified.
There was a time when working from home once in a while is a luxury. Most people are excited by the prospect; however, in the reality of working from home being imposed upon us as a full-time obligation. Still, it doesn’t mean that you need to break your usual routine, and of course, you might have some extra time in bed as a result of a reduction in your commute. But it is essential to get up, get ready for work, and set up a space that you can work from comfortably. I meant sitting at a table to ensure you have good posture.
When you are working from home, you have to be your manager, and therefore you have to utilize your skills very quickly. At the end of each day, you need to write your to-do list and goals for the next day so that you have a clear idea for the next day, and you don’t have to waste time in the morning. The matter of fact is without your office-based distractions; you may be more productive! But there will be a couple of distractions e.g., doorbell, laundry, dishes, social media, TV and of course your partner. Let’s accept that some of these distractions can be prevented, and some cannot, and the distractions are a reality. Just make sure one thing; they are not taking over the whole working day. Stay at home and stay safe!
What is a coronavirus
Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that may cause illness in animals or humans. In humans, several coronaviruses are known to cause respiratory infections ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). The most recently discovered coronavirus causes coronavirus disease COVID-19.
What is COVID-19
COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by the most recently discovered coronavirus. This new virus and disease were unknown before the outbreak began in Wuhan, China, in December 2019.
What are the symptoms of COVID-19
The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, tiredness, and dry cough. Some patients may have aches and pains, nasal congestion, runny nose, sore throat or diarrhea. These symptoms are usually mild and begin gradually. Some people become infected but don’t develop any symptoms and don’t feel unwell. Most people (about 80%) recover from the disease without needing special treatment. Around 1 out of every 6 people who get COVID-19 becomes seriously ill and develops difficulty breathing. Older people, and those with underlying medical problems like high blood pressure, heart problems or diabetes, are more likely to develop serious illness. People with fever, cough and difficulty breathing should seek medical attention.
How does COVID-19 spread
People can catch COVID-19 from others who have the virus. The disease can spread from person to person through small droplets from the nose or mouth which are spread when a person with COVID-19 coughs or exhales. These droplets land on objects and surfaces around the person. Other people then catch COVID-19 by touching these objects or surfaces, then touching their eyes, nose or mouth. People can also catch COVID-19 if they breathe in droplets from a person with COVID-19 who coughs out or exhales droplets. This is why it is important to stay more than 1 meter (3 feet) away from a person who is sick.
Only wear a mask if you are ill with COVID-19 symptoms (especially coughing) or looking after someone who may have COVID-19. A disposable face mask can only be used once. If you are not ill or looking after someone who is ill then you are wasting a mask. There is a world-wide shortage of masks, so We urge people to use masks wisely. We advise rational use of medical masks to avoid unnecessary wastage of precious resources and misuse of masks The most effective ways to protect yourself and others against COVID-19 are to frequently clean your hands, cover your cough with the bend of elbow or tissue and maintain a distance of at least 1 meter (3 feet) from people who are coughing or sneezing.
The following measures ARE NOT effective against COVID-2019 and can be harmful:
• Wearing multiple masks
• Taking antibiotics (See question 10 “Are there any medicines of therapies that can prevent or cure COVID-19?”)
In any case, if you have a fever, cough, and difficulty breathing seek medical care early to reduce the risk of developing a more severe infection and be sure to share your recent travel history with your health care provider.
